About the Company

Do you want to be at the forefront of a revolution in healthcare? At Pattern, we build DNA computers that run molecular programs in cells to treat cancer and other diseases. Using multi-input molecular-level computation in individual cells, our approach leads to curative therapies where the conventional one drug-one target paradigm has failed. Pattern is building a world-class team to translate two decades of progress in DNA computing and synthetic biology into the clinic.

About the Role

Are you passionate about working with cutting-edge technologies to develop next generation therapies? You will advance the early pipeline of innovative cancer therapies harnessing our biomolecular computing platform. You will plan, build, and validate a “human in a dish” platform to ensure translational relevance of our preclinical development pipeline. You will select and establish ex vivo and in vitro models, including patient-derived samples, tumor organoids, primary cells, organs-on-chips, etc., to “debug” and fine-tune our molecular programs in a setting that is as close as possible to the patient. To do that, you will create and implement functional multi-omics workflows to profile these disease models using bulk and single cell genomics technologies. You will characterize synthetic genetic components and their combinations in the context of these models to anticipate their function in patients.

What you'll do

  • Select and establish ex vivo and in vitro models of healthy and diseased primary cells, tissues, and organs to serve as a translationally relevant testing and validation platform
  • Characterize these models using multi-modal bulk and single cell assays and approaches, such as single cell mRNA + ATAC profiling and split-pool technologies
  • Collaborate with our Synthetic Biology and Computational Biology teams to develop workflows for comprehensive high-throughput testing of multiple synthetic genetic components, their combinations, and therapeutic candidates
  • Implement multi-modal bulk and single cell assays as an integral part of testing workflows
  • Plan and manage complex projects including interfacing with clinical partners for sample acquisition and sequencing service providers
  • Liaise with CROs, plan and oversee technology transfer and study execution at contract organizations, as needed
  • Maintain detailed, well-organized documentation of experiments and data

Requirements

  • PhD in molecular biology, genomics, bioengineering or a related field
  • Hands-on experience performing single cell and bulk genomics experiments including sample preparation, library preparation, and sequencing
  • Excellent knowledge of ex vivo/in vitro models, ideally in cancer (tumor organoids, tumor explants), as well as healthy/primary human and animal cells (primary cells, microtissues, spheroids, organoids, organs-on-chip)
  • High motivation with a strong work ethic and dedication to generating impact
  • Ability to go from idea to data to conclusions in an independent manner

Benefits

  • Health, dental and vision insurance
  • 401(k) program
  • Snacks provided
  • Gym on-site
  • Easy parking and access to EV charging
